Jurgen Klopp believed in the young talent that he has developed. With so many experienced and key plays on the injury roster, Klopp turned to ‘Klopp’s kids’ to come on the field and bring the cup home. The Liverpool manager brought on 19-year-olds James McConnell and Bobby Clark and Jayden Danns, 18, before also adding in 21-year-old Jarell Quansah from the bench. ‘Best practice’ would have dictated keeping on the experienced players right to the end as too much was at stake. Klopp has re-written those rules.
Nothing is more gratifying for a leader than to know they have developed a ‘deep bench’ which always makes room for new talent. I sensed that the more experienced players also put their faith in the ‘youngsters’ abilities. They too have played their part in developing the young talent. Like in business, culture eats everything else for breakfast – in this case the recently added expensive talent of Chelsea could not break the team spirit and culture of ‘we’re all in this together’ and ‘you’ll never walk alone’ to defeat Liverpool.
